JULY 2021 UPDATE
JULY 2021 UPDATE

Hello.

Did anyone notice that I didn’t send an update on the 10th?

A year before our originally scheduled reunion I started to send out monthly updates on the 10th of each month, hoping to reinforce the idea that the reunion was to be held on July 10, 2020. It’s time to reboot.

JUNE 2021 UPDATE

Hello.

I know most of you must be eager to hear when the reunion will be scheduled, er… rescheduled. I’m working on that.

To those of you who have asked, I’ve answered, “I don’t know. This is the first super-spreader event I have ever planned.” [God, please don’t let this be a super-spreader event!]

MAY 2021 UPDATE

Hello.

A few weeks ago, Diana Davis and I took a walk along some of Birmingham’s trails along the Rouge River. I put together a video from my iPhone. It should probably be called, “Wood and Diana encounter a deer.”

April 2021 UPDATE

Hello.

Last night I decided to risk the pandemic to visit the Daxton Hotel so I could give you a report. The streets were busy, the park was full, and almost no one was masked but me. I did chuckle at a man who, though unmasked, was vigorously smearing his hands at one of the city’s hand sanitizer stations. Does that make sense?

MARCH 2021 UPDATE
MARCH 2021 UPDATE

Hello.

A month ago I was standing in the cold to get pictures of the new hotel for you. Now we’re in the 60’s. It feels like a stolen season! I feel like I should expect an ice storm at any moment - but the Weather Channel says ‘no'.

The Daxton has not yet opened, but just this morning…

FEBRUARY 2021 UPDATE
FEBRUARY 2021 UPDATE

Hello.

It’s a cold couple of weeks coming up, hovering in the low 20’s and high teens. I’m not complaining… it could have been like this for a long time and hasn’t, and it could be sub-zero and it isn't, so all in all, I’m pretty pleased.

The situation still calls into question my sanity…

JANUARY 2021 UPDATE

Hello.

Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a happy Holiday season. Perhaps you even had a good picture taken of you toasting the new year? As a reminder, you have until June 10, 2021 to send a photo, or update your previous photo for inclusion in CHEERS! 2.0, a virtual reunion toasting the class on the occasion of our 51 year reunion.

DECEMBER 2020 UPDATE

Hello.

Birmingham is having a spirited fundraiser called The Great Decorate: "a holiday tree decorating contest in which downtown Birmingham merchants will compete to raise awareness and funds for local foster teens aging-out of the foster care system. Visitors can view magnificent, beautifully decorated trees in restaurants and retail locations throughout downtown Birmingham and vote for their favorite tree by donating online or in-person.

NOVEMBER 2020 UPDATE

Hello.

I hope everyone had the best Halloween they could under these Covid circumstances.

At the last minute I feared skipping a year might seriously impair my face painting skills, which are almost non-existent since I only practice once a year.

OCTOBER 2020 UPDATE
OCTOBER 2020 UPDATE

Hello.

I finally gathered enough nerve to take a road trip to the Leelenau Peninsula to visit a dear friend/client before she departs for winter. I had actually forgotten about the fall color I was about to see and it was wonderful.

SEPTEMBER 2020 UPDATE

Hello.

The news says pharmaceutical companies are rushing to get Covid-19 vaccines out by November. For my part, I have no interest in taking a vaccine that has been rushed through the testing process. I’ve done that once already, in 1955.

JULY 2020 UPDATE

Hello.

This is the day we were supposed to be gathering for the reunion. I think it’s good we are not. It’s sweltering, severe thunderstorms are on their way, and the town is a mess.

They say a vaccine might be ready in 12-18 months
